STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- Enjoy a meal. Support the troops.
The two go hand-in-hand, as Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar in Richmond Valley honors and supports local wounded soldiers with a special event on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.
The event, called "Thank a Soldier Day," will include raffle tickets, bracelets and Christmas ornaments that can be purchased. Proceeds from those items will be donated to Brendan Marrocco, a 22-year-old U.S. Army private first class and former Huguenot resident who had to have both arms and legs amputated following an ambush while serving in Iraq.
In addition, guests presenting a donation coupon will have 10 percent of their paid dinner bill sent to Staten Island Project Homefront, a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting deployed military personnel and acts as a support organization for the families of deployed soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen and Mariners.
To acquire a coupon, e-mail Loretta Giamboi of Project Homefront at lor4men@aol.com.
